We can’t move on,’ Oby Ezekwesili gives touching speech at TIME 100 Gala
Former Nigerian Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has said that the world can’t move on without rescuing the abducted Chibok girls.
The #BringBackOurGirls campaigner made the statement during the TIME 100 Gala which held in New York City on Tuesday, April 21, 2015.
Mrs Ezekwesili had earlier called on US President, Barack Obama to do more to rescue the girls.
“Our 219 Chibok girls are crying to be rescued. I am saying to the world “you can’t move on.” How can you possibly move on?” Mrs Ezekwesili asked.
“How can we be in a world where technology can find you in your bedroom and today we have nothing on the matter of our 219 girls?” she said in her emotional speech.
The former Minister, who was named among the world’s 100 most influential people by TIME, also spoke of the indignity she had suffered for standing for the girls.
She however stated that her pride at standing for something outweighed her trials.
“Whatever we choose to do, we can accomplish. Let’s choose to bring our girls back,” she said.
“There’s absolutely nothing that the God I believe in cannot do,” she said. “But the same God has given man and woman the power of choice. Whatever we choose to do, we can accomplish. Let’s choose to bring our girls back, please?” she said further.
Mrs Ezekwesili urged Obama to compare the girls with his own daughters adding that if he could capture Osama bin Laden, he can also rescue the Chibok girls.
