The Reasons GEJ Sacked Suleiman Abba

The Reasons GEJ Sacked Suleiman Abba

Vanguard reporters have stated that the former Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba "incurred the wrath of the Presidency on the eve of the governorship and House of Assembly elections for allegedly arguing with the government officials over the directive to recall the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Charge of Zone 6, Tunde Ogunshakin, from Rivers State."

Vanguard says that Abba had deployed Ogunshakin from Calabar to Port Harcourt to oversee the Rivers state governorship elections after Amaechi had complained that the police and INEC had connived to rig in favor of PDP.

When the president called Abba to query him about the deployment of Ogunshakin the paper reports (it was believed Ogunshakin was sympathetic to Amaechi), Suleiman Abba had reportedly ignored President Jonathan's calls.

Vanguard also says: "another sin of the former IG was his presence at the presentation of the Certificate of Return to Muhammadu Buhari at the International Conference Centre on April 1, 2015, which convinced the Presidency that the IG was actually working for the opposition and it moved quickly against him."

Nigeria's Ambassador to South Africa To Face Jonathan's Wrath

Nigeria's Ambassador to South Africa To Face Jonathan's Wrath

While the violence in South Africa rages, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba has, on Tuesday, asked President Jonathan to recall - and immediately - the Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa, Mr. Martin Cobham.

Olisa has accused Cobham and indeed the Nigerian authorities of a weak response to the xenophobic incidents.

He said: “There can be no excuse for this outrageous behaviour especially in the context of good neighbourly relations between South Africa and Nigeria. Nigeria stood by their South African brothers and sisters at their greatest hour of need during the apartheid years. This is no way to repay us.

“It is shocking that President Zuma of South Africa has not made a clear statement. I feel the response of the Nigerian Government has been very weak. The Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa should be recalled. Our Foreign Minister should summon the South African Commissioner in Nigeria to convey our disappointment at the behaviour of some South Africans.

“The South African Government must know that xenophobic behaviour of its people is not acceptable to Nigerians and it will have the gravest consequences for Nigerian-South African relations, unless they stop their inexcusable behaviour."

New Police IG!

New Police IG!

Following the presidential sack of Suleiman Abba, Mr. Solomon Arase takes his place as the new Inspector-General of Police.

Before his latest apointment, Mr. Arase was head of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.

He has a Bachelors and Masters degree in law and political science and strategic studies, according to African Spotlight.

He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Defence College.

Legisreports describes him as "a gentleman, terrific policeman," and writes the following paragraph about him: "There is a myth, perhaps a common one that the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) is not your friend.

Granted, the NPF is generally not an institution most Nigerians talk about with a great smile. The force has come under many negative headlines, the officers and men of the law enforcement agency have been abused, probably due to the common attitude of a few.

Putting all of these in mind, LEGISPROFILE will in the next edition, introduce an officer of the Nigerian Police Force that is different, well-spoken, a lover of Nigeria, a believer of rule of law, a policeman per excellence. His name is Mr. Solomon Arase an Assistant Inspector General of Police by rank (AIG).

AIG Arase heads Federal Inteligence Bureau (FIB)."
