Liberia Discharges Last Ebola Patient

Liberia Discharges Last Ebola Patient

Liberia has on Thursday released its last Ebola patient, a 58-year old English teacher, from a treatment center in the capital.

"I am one of the happiest human beings today on earth because it was not easy going through this situation and coming out alive," Beatrice Yardolo told The Associated Press after her release. She kept thanking God and the health workers at the center.

There are no other confirmed cases of Ebola in the country, and as such Liberia can begin to count up to 42 days to be declared Ebola free in keeping with World Health Organization protocols and standards.

APC to PDP, Fani-Kayode: Produce evidence of Osinbajo’s oath-taking

APC to PDP, Fani-Kayode: Produce evidence of Osinbajo’s oath-taking

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has asked the Peoples Democratic Party and its Presidential Campaign’s Director of Media and Publicity Femi Fani-Kayode to produce evidence on their purported claims of oath-taking and resignation of Prof Yemi Osinbajo for national leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the event that General Muhammadu Buhari wins the March 28 presidential election.

The APC Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCPCO) in a statement in Abuja, Monday, warned the PDP and Fani-Kayode to either show evidence of the oath-taking or retract the libelous claims within 72 hours or be ready to be charged to a court of law.

“For the PDP through Fani-Kayode to state publicly that an erudite Professor of law, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and a reputable Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God swore an oath to vacate his seat as the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, should the party win the forthcoming election is an attack on the hard-won integrity and the reputations of these great Nigerians and APC stalwarts ,” said Mallam Garba Shehu, Director, Media and Publicity of the Campaign.

“We view this as both slanderous and libelous and therefore will not leave the matter to chance. To this effect, we hereby give Femi Fani-Kayode and the PDP 72 hours to produce evidence or in the alternative issue public apology to Pastor Yemi Osinbajo, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and our party the APC or be prepared to be charged to the court of law.”

Buhari’s Chatham House Speech Laughable, Says Group

Buhari’s Chatham House Speech Laughable, Says Group

A group operating under the aegis of Good Governance Initiative (GGI) has punctured speeches made by the All Progressives Congress APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House, London, describing it as laughable.

The group in a statement at the weekend in Lagos, said even though it was clear that the retired general was reluctantly reading a script prepared for him by those who see him as a tool to actualise their selfish political goal, the delivery was fraught with a deluge of irregularities and fallacious promises that are unrealisable.

The group wondered why the APC presidential candidate and his stalwarts had to travel all the way to London for the purpose when the Nigerian’s equivalence of Chatham House, the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) on Victoria Island Lagos lay fallow.

The Director, Media and Publicity of GGI, Mr. Sunny Osa, specifically, noted that apart from the fact that the retired general was bereft of ideas pertaining to the nation’s macro-economic indices and could not therefore, give a categorical answer as to how he would turn around the fortunes of the country. he lost control of himself when he was asked a question about his hard stand on the introduction of Sharia law in the whole country if he was voted in.

According to him, ”Why Chatham House to deliver his speech and not NIIA if they are not deceitful? It was a waste of resources, an effort in the wrong direction tantamount to winking in the dark.”

Continuing, Osa said: “ This is man who could hardly stand for more than five minutes at every political rally to deliver his speech but stood for over 30 minutes in Chatham House chattering away fallacious promises. If for anything, I view Buhari and his cohorts’ appearance in Chatham House as a tragic epic movie, spiteful and a calculated move aimed at currying sympathy where there is none.

“If you watch the footage, you would have noticed that he was reluctantly reading a script prepared for him by those who want to use him to actualise their selfish political agenda. What was the electoral value of the Chatham speech, who do they wish to impress? Buhari could not hide his ill -feelings for those he has perceived as enemies who he aims to vent his wrath on should he secure his presidential ambition. Nigerians should ask themselves why he is contesting for the fourth time having been rejected trice by the same Nigerians. Listen to his uncoordinated and laughable speeches and you would realise that they hold no water.”

Osa therefore, urged Nigerians both within and in the Diaspora to be vigilant, discerning and disregard the smokescreen appearance of the general and his agents of economic destabilisation and vote them out during the forthcoming March 28, general election.

According to him, President Goodluck Jonathan deserves all the supports needed to actualise his transformation agenda for the country.

Jonathan Challenges Buhari To A Debate In Chatham House

Jonathan Challenges Buhari To A Debate In Chatham House

President Goodluck Jonathan has challenged the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress in the March 28 election, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), to a public debate at Chatam House in United Kingdom saying it would deepen democracy.
According to him, the debate calls to question “your refusal to accede to requests for a Presidential Debate here at home in Nigeria.”
Jonathan threw the challenge in an open letter to Buhari by the National Coordinator of Wind of Hope, his personal NGO, Mr. Onoriode Akpeh, and obtained by journalists in Abuja.
The organization said it would “fully sponsor” such a forum, adding “all we ask is that you state your preferred date and time.”
The letter reads: “Your Excellency, We wish to congratulate you on your recent visit to the United Kingdom where you delivered a speech at Chatham House, London on Thursday February 26 2015. Your speech at the event is clearly a source of motivation for your supporters who in recent times seem to have lost steam in their aggressive marketing of your candidacy for the office of President.
“The author of the said speech must be commended because your presentation finally acknowledged the achievements of the present government in growing our economy to be the largest in Africa with a GDP of $510 Billion and maintaining a single digit inflation regime.
“However, your action, or may we say your party’s action with regards to the entire concept and aim of the forum, calls to question, your refusal to accede to requests for a Presidential Debate here at home in Nigeria.
“In our quest to deepen democracy which thrives on robust and constructive deliberations that aids the electorate in making informed decisions, Wind of Hope hereby offers you a platform to debate with the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan before the forthcoming elections at Chatham House where you were so obviously at ease before your supporters and the international media.
“We wish to state further, our readiness to FULLY SPONSOR such a forum. All we ask is that you state your preferred date and time.
“Again, we wish to reiterate the import of such a debate in this election which you appropriately described as “Nigeria’s landmark election” in your speech at Chatham House.
“In closing, we would like to wish Your Excellency well in all your endeavors and do so with the hope that you see our request as a call to duty. Where the future of our country is at stake, no inconvenience is too great to bear. Please accept the assurance of our best regards
