Put Your House In Order, PDP Tells INEC

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Adamu Muazu has tasked the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiry Jega, to put his house in order before March 28 slated for the presidential election. Muazu said the call has become imminent following revelations that the commission was ill-prepared for the elections earlier scheduled to hold tomorrow Saturday, 14 February 2015 and emphasised that the commission must gear it is effort at wholesome readiness for the big game. He noted that while the PDP was ready for the elections for February 14 and was certain of victory and already savouring same, the hope of victory was deferred by the commission following its inadequacies which clearly manifested in the huge gap in the distribution and collection of the permanent voters card and the total registered voters.

Muazu said this at a press conference where the top echelon of the party were in attendance at the Wadata House yesterday in Abuja. According to him: “Taking the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega on his own words, for the 68.8 million registered voters, the commission had only printed and delivered 66.3 million Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) with 1.3 million yet to be delivered and 1.1 million stolen cards yet to be replaced. “Also according to Jega, 45.09 million voters cards were collected by prospective voters representing 65.8 percent of the registered voters and 23.71 million PVCs, representing 34.2 percent were yet to be collected as at February 7th, which is exactly one week to the February 14th earlier scheduled date.

Compare this anomaly with the 2011 elections where not a single eligible voter was disenfranchised “By this account, INEC could not sincerely claim to have been fully prepared for a desirable credible, free and fair election at the time when more than 23 million registered voters were going to be disenfranchised. “Nigerians embraced the idea of PVC as a model to facilitate credible elections and not as instrument of disenfranchisement. “We therefore want to use this forum to urge INEC to use the period of the shift to ensure that it put its house in order and bequeath to Nigerians the desired free, fair and credible elections,” Muazu said.

The chairman said the party had already activated it’s victory mode and was waiting for the election to hold tomorrow and its victory announced and engage in jubilation but the commission has put that in hold. He said the party was affected by the postponement as other parties and wondered at the subjective comments of the opposition caution the All Progressive Congress (APC) to be mature in its politics that would deepen the democratic voyage of the country as there is no other Nigeria as this. “Indeed, we have noted the reactions that trailed this postponement, particularly the very subjective statements from opposition leaders alleging that our great party and the government masterminded the postponement to favour the PDP.

M.I Abaga Defend Entertainers Who Didn’t Contribute During OJB’s Kidney Ailment

M.I Abaga Defend Entertainers Who Didn’t Contribute During OJB’s Kidney Ailment

In a chat with My Africa Podcast, M.I Abaga opened up on why artistes didn’t donate Money for OJB’s kidney complications.

MI said the fear of being ridiculed made many artistes not to give cash to the producer.

In his words;

“First of all, I have the utmost respect for Nomoreloss as a human being. He was definitely one of the people that had a platform that put us on. He is always showing me love, always giving me good advice.

“I haven’t seen him since, and I dread seeing him because, I can imagine that for that one comment, he’ll be disappointed. ‘Yo M.I, why didn’t you reach out to me.

“But this what happened; OJB was sick and people were trying to raise money. I all of a sudden went 0-100 broke, like instantly. All of a sudden there was letters going out, ‘like this person didn’t contribute, why would you ask a publicist (to write a letter), and it became a big thing. What caught me was the fact that Nomoreloss who was a fellow artiste, and he’s writing letters saying, ‘Why won’t artiste come out, why won’t D’banj speak out and say he didn’t donate this money?”

“Everybody was confused, every artiste was confused, so one or two things started happening. A certain artiste told me that he went and contributed the little money that he had, and by the time he got home, it was put in the broadcast, ‘this is how much you gave’.” And it was embarrassing because somebody else is giving N5 million, and you have your little N100,000.

“Already, everybody was in that N100,000 category, of which there was maybe 20, 30 people. Automatically it’s like ‘Yo, I’m gonna keep my N100,000, I’m not trying to be embarrassed. On the second hand, you have artistes, like myself, who were just confused, if we were to go, what would have happened, what would we see, because it had become a media thing.

OJB later got the help he needed when the Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, funded the surgery. M.I Abaga recognizes that, but believes that more discretion and understanding should have been applied by Nomoreloss.

“At the end of the day, Nomoreloss can hold his head high because OJB did get help. But the comment in the song came from the fact that I remember reading back to back articles and people were just insulting 2face (Idibia); this guy gave you all the music and you couldn’t even even help him. People didn’t know at the time, 2face’s Dad who had later gone on to pass away from kidney complications was in India undergoing the same thing.

“I was privy to one moment when they needed money right there and then, and 2face was caught between Lagos and Abuja, he was trying to get money for people to send. It was rough for some people. People had issues every day, you know Iyanya lost most of his family in one year, but we never see that side. What we see is what you should be able to do based on our perception of who you are.

“At least not from a fellow artiste. A fellow artiste should understand, and thankfully it didn’t become controversial. That’s the truth of what I wanted to say in the moment.”

Obasanjo Rebukes Jonathan, Endorses Buhari, Warns Against Coup

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo who is a member of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) openly endorsed APC’s Presidential aspirant, Buhari after condemning President Jonathan’s administration for months.

Obasanjo, made his opinion known during an interview with the Financial Times at the launch of his controversial autobiography titled, ‘My Watch’, in Nairobi, Kenya.

According to Punch, Obasanjo said Buhari, who ruled Nigeria between December 1983 and August 1985, was aware of the challenges of Nigeria today and was qualified to rule the country.

He said, “The circumstances under which Buhari will be working under if he wins the elections are different from the one he worked under before, where he was both the executive and the legislature – he knows that. He is smart enough. He is educated enough. He’s experienced enough. Why shouldn’t I support him?”

Obasanjo said he was confident that Buhari would be able to effectively tackle corruption and insecurity.

The former President said Buhari would restore the morale of the military which, he said, was needed in the fight against terrorism.

He said President Goodluck Jonathan betrayed the armed forces by allowing corruption to undermine their operations.

He said, “It is a question of leadership – political and military. I think you need to ask Jonathan how he let the army go to this extent. Many things went wrong: recruitment went wrong; training went wrong; morale went down; motivation was not there; corruption was deeply ingrained; and welfare was bad.”

Obasanjo added that he was saddened by the rate at which the nation’s resources were dwindling, adding that when he left office, Nigeria had $45bn in its reserve but the resources had been depleted by more than half despite the increase in oil prices.

Reacting to the postponement of the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission for security reasons and a better distribution of Permanent Voter Cards, Obasanjo said he hoped the Federal Government was being truthful.

He urged Jonathan to put the interest of the nation ahead of his own ambition.

He said warned that manipulating the electoral process could lead to a coup d’etat, adding that the May 29 handover date remained sacrosanct.
